Once On This Island yesterday, SubText for tomorrow night!
i texted him din, on my way to the theater. got none. disappointed, yes. but not quite. i was more prepared for that yesterday than the other day. but i wasn't disappointed with the play that i watched.
it's "Once On This Island". got a pretty good seat. seats aren't adequately elevated at the Romulo Theater though, a tall one almost sat infront of me before the show began, good thing he transferred. i was there for the performers.. had this been staged before, maybe I wouldn't have given it a second look had it not been for the cast.
the show.. it was great. Raki Vega played Ti Moune. I am not sure whether it was Bituin Escalante who played Asaka. But so far, i got the premiere cast, no understudies. They sang really really well, Raki reminded me of Lea Salonga. Michael de Mesa, Jett Pangan, Menchu Yulo were great. it was a nice show. it didn't help that I really loved "The Little Mermaid", so maybe there's a bias going on, since there are parallels to both shows.
i just don't know if it was because of the review i had read that jeffrey hidalgo wasn't as good as the rest of the cast, but i found myself neutral to his performance. not liking it, but not hating it as well. but then again, maybe he is surrounded by more seasoned veterans, and that was his first broadway musical. hmm.. for a neophyte, he's not so bad after all.
Just this afternoon, I reserved tickets to tomorrow's performance Subtext in Kamuning. Mama and I are at war right now, I'm not sure who i will take along. If anything goes awry, I'll go alone.
SubTEXT.. this play is about pinoy's texting nuances, reviews say. it doesn't help that my textmate is gone right now.. and maybe this is the play to put a little bit of sense into my head. i'm just there for the entertainment though.. its an award-winning play, so i guess my expectations are high for that one. maybe it's much like the play we watched in UP before. but i have to come early, or my tickets will be given to walk-ins. and i wouldn't like that. hehehe. this is the last performance for this season i think.
got a ton of work to do.. problem is, i don't want any of it!!!
